Industrial B2B · Northern Saskatchewan

The right recommendation was the smaller one.

P&M Barging moves heavy equipment, fuel and project cargo across Lake Athabasca for mines, camps and communities in Northern Saskatchewan. Their buyers are few, specific and already looking for them. That changes what a website has to do.

Why an SEO retainer was the wrong tool

Ongoing SEO earns its cost when there is a steady stream of people searching for what you sell, and enough value in each new customer to justify the work of reaching them. Barging contracts on Lake Athabasca do not work that way.

The buying pool is small and largely known. Contracts are won on capability, insurance, safety record and the ability to answer a quote quickly, not on ranking for a high-volume search term that barely exists. A broad content program would have produced pages nobody was searching for, billed monthly.

What was actually missing was credibility at the moment of evaluation: a place where a procurement manager could confirm the company is real, understand exactly what it moves and how much, and request a quote without friction.

What we built

A credibility website with one job.

Every decision on this project answered the same question: does this help a serious buyer decide to request a quote?

  1. 01

    Establish the operation

Indigenous ownership, years of service and the safety record stated plainly and near the top, where an evaluating buyer looks first.

  2. 02

    Explain a specialized service

What gets moved, the fleet, the coverage area and the load limits. Specific enough that the right buyer recognises their own job in the description.

  3. 03

    Remove friction from the quote

A direct path to a quote request and a dispatch number on every screen, because in this business the next step is a conversation, not a cart.

  4. 04

    Stop there

No content calendar, no retainer, no ongoing invoice. The focused website was the whole job, and it was enough to start showing up.

Early signals

A focused site was enough to show up.

The point of P&M was never a big SEO program. But a well-built, focused site, no retainer, started producing search visibility on its own.

Area ranking, first week

Clicks from Google Search Console. The #1 area ranking was verified in Google Search in the first week after launch, and we also built the Google Business Profile so P&M can collect reviews. Before this, the business had no organic presence.

These are small, early numbers, and rankings vary by searcher, location and time. The #1 position reflects a point-in-time check, not a sustained or independently audited ranking. We include them because they make the real point: a focused website, done well, was enough here. It did not need a retainer to start showing up.

The transferable part

Not every business needs ongoing SEO, and an agency that only sells retainers has no way to tell you that. We scope the work around the commercial need. When a landing page or a focused website can accomplish the objective, that is the recommendation. Even though it is the smaller sale.

If you are not sure which category your business is in, that is exactly the question the first conversation is for.
